Cosme-Haul's New Pinterest Boards

Greetings, Cosme-Haulers,

Over at our Pinterest account I've created some new boards for you to explore.

For those of you who like to see an actual URL instead of a blind link, it's

http://www.pinterest.com/cosmehaul/

If you're on Pinterest, check us out. If you like what you see, give us a Like.

Better yet, Follow us! (We Follow back.)

I stress the importance of Likes and Follows, because now, more than ever, it's important to support things you like to see on the Internet. There's a lot of noise, inorganic linking, and unrelated keyword purchases to cut through, among other things:

Last week, we were turned down by an important affiliate because our material was deemed too "edgy." Not every site is a good match, so we're usually OK with that. In this case, it's a company we like a lot and whose products we use often and whose demographics match ours. Again, we get it, that's fine. Except...

The company in question thought there was too much rock and roll on this blog. The great irony is, that particular company's products are well-known for being used onstage and in photographs by rock stars. Their onstage reliability is one of the reasons I chose them as a potential affiliate for our shop.

So...they don't mind rock stars using their products, they just don't want to be associated with them. Having studied their demographics, it seems the company is uncomfortable with their products' true demographics.

They also said we weren't enough like other makeup blogs...which is exactly what I set out to do when I created this blog. I was tired of seeing the same thing.  Not everyone is a "pink girl." (For that matter, not everyone who reads cosmetics blog even is a girl. Welcome, guys!)

If anything, I worry when we're too much like other blogs.

Our stats bear this out. We like to have everyone feel welcome here, so we try to present a variety. The posts I think are the ones that might be the most generally  "publicly acceptable" fall flat with our readers every time. The fun posts I wonder about being too strange are the ones our readers go for.

Thank you for that!!!

For those of you that do like the less edgy, more classic stuff we have here on Cosme-haul, we definitely appreciate you and there's nothing wrong with your tastes either. This blog is all about having fun with your makeup, whatever that is for you.

But if you're someone who sees something you like that's a little more off-the-wall, Like it. Follow it. Let companies know you like seeing that.

Otherwise, we're all relegated to a sea of sameness. And what fun is leaving people out?

Thanks as always, for reading Cosme-Haul. And if you're one of the people who've Followed us on Twitter or Pinterest or checked out the Cosme-Haul Shop (new sales coming soon) , thank you for that, too!

RR :-)
